Lyft: 6 Easy Rules to Remember While Being Pulled Over by Police
Become a Lyft driver and make money!
I’m sure you have seen the news lately and have noticed the recent assaults by The Police and even shootings of drivers over dumb stuff.
Don’t let yourself become a statistic! Especially when driving for Lyft.
Many times when Police stop someone the person they stopped does not know the rules or if they do refuse to follow them which only makes the Officer more stressed than he already is.
Why do that? Why risk getting shot or being assaulted?
When you drive for Lyft you are out in the street all the time and sometimes you will make mistakes while you are driving. No matter how great of a driver you are! You might take the chance and make an illegal U turn or whatever and get caught.
But when it does happen you have to be smart. Remember the Officer is a person just like you and has their faults. Yes no matter how much training they have in the end they are just as good as their faults.
Why exacerbate it?
After thinking about it while driving for Lyft I came up with 6 easy rules to follow when driving for Lyft.
1. Pull over to a safe spot:
When the Police pull you over the first thing you will need to do is find a safe spot for you to pull over. Doing this will make the exchange safer between you and the Officer and not worry about another car hitting you or the Officer.
2 Turn your Hazard Lights on:
Before you pull to a safe spot make sure you turn on your Hazard lights on. Like that the Officer will see that you notice him and will comply. Keep your Hazards on until after the Officer has given you the citation.
3. Lower Your Car Windows:
When being pulled over my fellow Lyft driver it’s wise to lower all of your windows in the car, like that when the Officer approaches he can look inside and relax a little. You should definitely do this if your cars windows are tinted.
4. Place Both Hands on Steering Wheel
Once you have lowered the windows of your car you will also need to place both hands on the steering wheel.
Your hands should be placed at the top of the steering wheel closely together. It makes it easier for the Officer to see that you have nothing or are holding anything.
5. Watch Your Car’s Mirrors:
As your hands are placed on top of the steering wheel watch the Officer coming towards you. If you can see him he can definitely see you.
Check your rear and both side mirrors as sometimes you will have more than one Officer approach and you never want to get caught off guard.
6. Don’t Say Anything and follow the Instructions:
I know you are upset and want to give the Officer a piece of your mind but you must contain yourself!
The Officer will give you instructions and you should follow. If you need to reach for your Wallet let the Officer know what you are doing so you won’t catch them off guard.
If your going to tech for your cars papers it’s good to tell the Officer that you are going to reach for your paperwork. Once he or she gives you the okay then go ahead and reach for your paperwork slow and predictable moves.
Once you got your paperwork you hand it over to him and look at the name and badge number and remember it.
He will go to his car and check on your paperwork and if you are straight he will come back and give your paperwork back.
There you have it!
You survived to live another day! Which is always a good thing. And you can be off on your way to be the best Lyft driver ever to live!
When driving for Lyft or any ride share company it’s always good to use your head when the time comes for you to use it. Don’t be another statistic or worse yet another news story when all you had to do is follow the 6 easy rules and you will do fine!
Oh, one more thing. If you do get stopped by Police don’t get out your car! PLEASE! Stay in your car unless he or she tells you to approach other than that stay in your car and the Officer will do the rest!
